Healing From Spiritual Bypassing

With Lissa Rankin, MD & Internal Family Systems Founder Richard C. Schwartz, Ph.D.

Free Online Live Event Monday Nov. 16, 4-6 pm Pacific Time

The chaos of 2020 has ripped through many spiritual communities built upon spiritual teachings not solid enough to withstand the intensity of back to back disasters. Many New Age teachers, yoga teachers, non-dual spiritual teachers, wellness influencers, and holistic practitioners went off the rails of critical thinking and became vulnerable to spiritual bypassing, conspiracy theories, Covid denialism, polarized black and white thinking, and denial of our complicity in systemic racism.

As a result, many who have bonded through New Age spirituality or Eastern philosophies like yoga and Advaita Vedanta feel lost and adrift right now. As social justice issues rightfully rise to the surface, many of us are learning that certain New Age teachings, while they may have been helpful at some phase of the spiritual path for people with certain kinds of privileges, are ready to be outgrown. This growing awareness of the shadow of the New Age may leave you feeling lost, scared, empty, ashamed, and stranded without a tribe.

If you feel that way, you are not alone. Many of us have used spiritual bypassing as an understandable defense mechanism to cover up old traumas we weren’t ready to deal with yet. Now those wounds are coming into our awareness because the time has come to heal them.
Sacred Medicine author Lissa Rankin, MD is teaming up with Internal Family Systems (IFS) founder Richard Schwartz, PhD to offer a free 2 hour group healing for anyone who needs help as our spiritual communities reorganize. Internal Family Systems is the antidote to spiritual bypassing. It’s healing; not Band-Aiding. IFS offers a non-polarizing, non-demonizing, non-blaming or shaming way to learn to know, love, heal, and lead various “parts” of yourself, like:

• Spiritual bypassing parts
• Parts that wonder about conspiracy theories
• Parts that just wish everyone would get along and stop fighting
• Parts that may have practiced subtle racism
• Parts that want to forgive before people have been held accountable for wrongdoing because conflict is scary
• Parts that just want to extend “love and light”
If you resonate with any of these parts, there are so many others who have parts just like you! All because these parts thought they were protecting you. So let’s befriend rather than shame these parts.

We the people chose empathy in this US election, but now we have work to do in order to use that empathy to make things just for all. Join a community of open-hearted spiritual seekers who have reached the phase of spiritual development where we’re ready to engage with social justice issues as part of our spiritual path, without bypassing the pain we feel when we extend our empathy to include EVERYONE who may be suffering on this planet right now, beginning with and including our own hurting parts.
Richard Schwartz began his career as a systemic family therapist and an academic. Grounded in systems thinking, Dr. Schwartz developed Internal Family Systems (IFS) in response to clients’ descriptions of various parts within themselves.

He focused on the relationships among these parts and noticed that there were systemic patterns to the way they were organized across clients. He also found that when the clients’ parts felt safe and were allowed to relax, the clients would experience spontaneously the qualities of confidence, openness, and compassion that Dr. Schwartz came to call the Self. He found that when in that state of Self, clients would know how to heal their parts.

A featured speaker for national professional organizations, Dr. Schwartz has published many books and over fifty articles about IFS.
Lissa Rankin, MD, New York Times bestselling author of Sacred Medicine, The Daily Flame, Mind Over Medicine, The Fear Cure, and The Anatomy of a Calling is a physician, speaker, founder of the Whole Health Medicine Institute, creator of The Daily Flame, a mystic, and a bonafide spiritual bypasser- until she found Internal Family Systems five years ago.

Bridging between seemingly disparate worlds, Lissa is a connector, collaborator, curator, and amplifier, broadcasting not only her unique visionary ideas, but also those of cutting edge visionaries she discerns and trusts, especially in the field of her latest research into “Sacred Medicine.”

Her latest project is non-profit work committed to eliminating the public health epidemic of loneliness while bringing Sacred Medicine out of its current status as a luxury good for privileged elites and bringing it to anyone who needs it and is open to it, regardless of socioeconomic status, race, or gender identity.
