Dear Friends,

We invite you to join this 2-day workshop with Mind Over Medicine  author Dr. Lissa Rankin, and special guest Dr. Jeffrey Rediger for a transformational and experiential workshop on the mysteries of spontaneous healing and how we can make our bodies available for the best possible outcomes, without magical thinking and while staying grounded in science, critical thinking, and awareness of social justice, health equity, and social determinants of health.

Are you curious why some people experience mysterious cures from allegedly “incurable” illnesses while others stay sick or even die?

Are you wondering whether there’s more you might do to optimize your body’s health, your mental health, or the health of your patients, clients, or loved ones?

Do you sense that there’s more to optimal health than the reductionist medical model promoted by conventional medicine, and yet you’re not wanting to stray into the ungrounded and unscientific magical thinking and white privilege of the wellness industry?

WHY?

It’s natural and oh so human to feel the suffering of fear, helplessness, and hopelessness when we get sick before our time, especially if we’ve tried conventional medicine and failed to get better. Health care practitioners also tend to feel frustrated and helpless when patients fail to respond to the best medical treatments we know how to administer, which can exacerbate the helplessness and hopelessness. Sometimes, patients really have tried everything under the sun, and hope is truly gone. But more often than not, patients and practitioners are not even educated about the many scientifically documented interventions not typically even talked about by conventional medical doctors or even many alternative medical professionals.

Much has been written by those who study “health outliers” who beat the odds and are cured from “incurable” or even terminal illnesses. Both objective science and qualitative science exist, and radical remission researchers have attemped to unravel the mysteries of spontaneous healing and make suggestions for optimal health outcomes, including Lissa Rankin’s Mind Over Medicine and Sacred Medicine and Jeffrey Rediger’s CURED. And yet, in spite of many publications and scientific studies, mainstream medicine still has not adopted even the most basic understanding, much less practice, of what might explain the disparity of outcomes experienced by patient with the exact same medical condition and prognosis become health outliers with better than expected outcomes

For several decades now, Drs. Rankin and Rediger have been asking and attempting to answer the question of what modern medicine is missing and what else we can do to help ourselves, our patients, and our loved ones achieve the mysterious health outcomes that doctors call “spontaneous remissions” and religion calls “miracles.” Dr. Rediger spent the past 20 years rigorously researching, with before and after medical records as proof of cure, the histories of people with “incurable” illnesses who were unexpectedly cured. Curious why we study outliers in nearly every other field (athletics, cognitive intelligence, and creativity, for example) but we seem to write off “health outliers” as mere flukes, Dr. Rediger collated what he learned under the “four pillars” of proactive interventions the survivors shared in common and published some of his research in CURED: The Science of Spontaneous Healing.

Dr. Rankin has also been studying the same phenomenon for nearly as long. After scouring the medical literature to collect the scientific data proving that the body has the power to sometimes heal itself- either alongside modern medicine believed to be inadequate for cure or in spite of it, against all odds, Dr. Rankin published her initial results on Mind Over Medicine in 2013 and revised and added new insights to the book in 2020. Then she traveled the world in search of shamans from Peru, Qigong masters from China, Indigenous healers from Bali and Thailand, energy healers from across the globe, and ultimately, cutting edge trauma therapists in the United States and Europe. She also visited pilgrimage sites reputed to be the cause of miracle cures, like Lourdes and the Sanctuario de Chimayo. She published some of the results of this research into spiritual healing, energy healing, and trauma therapy as an adjunct to medical treatment in Sacred Medicine.

Since surviving a global pandemic and watching the wellness industry implode, it’s time to revisit what optimal wellness really requires, not just at the level of the individual, but at a societal and public health level. We invite you to join us for this weekend workshop to review the research and also share unpublished insights and post-pandemic revelations about what truly helps people heal- and what interferes with the healing process. We’ll be guiding you through experiential processes intended to facilitate the healing process for those who wish to try everything within their power to have the best possible achievable health outcomes.

Of course, we’re all going to get sick and die at some point, and when that will happen- and why some people will leave this life sooner than others- will forever remain a mystery. But grounded hope does exist for many patients who feel frightened, helpless, and hopeless and don’t know where to turn. In this interactive, experiential online course, Drs. Rankin and Rediger will present their decades long research and health-inducing practices into what truly lies at the root of many diseases and what genuinely helps turn those diseases around.

  • 3 very simple things that it costs you nothing to change that could improve your health outcome;
  • The one “pillar” from Dr. Rediger’s Four Pillars of Optimal Health from his meticulously corroborated CURED research into radical remission survivors that seems to matter more than all the others;
  • Why Dr. Rankin entirely rewrote Mind Over Medicine to make sure you know one key intervention she learned right after publishing the first version;
  • 12 things you can do to improve your chances of “spontaneous” remission, based on Dr. Rediger’s research;
  • Why New Age spirituality and wellness industry teachings and practices might actually be making you sicker.

“Lowering your blood pressure by deep breathing or meditation—or even a healthy swearing session inside your closed car—has fewer side effects than any pill.” ― Rachel Carlton Abrams, MD

You Will Be ABLE TO

  • Zoom out and get a birds eye view of the life you’re living and how close (or far) it is from the life that might help your body heal to its optimal potential
  • Make clear choices about how far you’re willing to stretch in order to see whether it’s within the realm of possibility to become the next “health outlier”;
  • Become intimate with and extend compassionate care to the “parts” of you that might threaten to sabotage your efforts to improve your health;
  • Gain a realistic lens on what’s within your control to heal and/or cure- and what might not be;
  • Begin to accept and make peace with what is not within your control to heal or cure- so you can let go of the toxic teachings that suggest that if you’re not 100% healed and fully cured, there must be something wrong with you.

The body truly does keep the score and tell the story if we are able to listen and get the message it is sending.” --Jeffrey Rediger, MD, MDiv

You’re curious what proactive health-inducing options are within your wheelhouse to change- and what is beyond your control;

You want to hear what Lissa, Jeff, and Rachel have learned since publishing their books (the pandemic changed everything in health care);

    “If we had no hope - for a cure, for winning the lottery, for falling in love, for the end of war, for being free of abuse, or for having food, warmth, clothing, and shelter - we would have no reason to go on. What you hope for doesn't matter, but rather the essence of hope itself.”-Bernie Siegel, MD

    CURED CLIFF NOTES
    Lissa Rankin’s Notes On Jeffrey Rediger’s book CURED.

    If you’re anything like me, what Jeff discovered will inspire you, whether you’re sick or not. He found that these “health outliers” did not just “go gentle into that good night” as the Dylan poem might suggest. As one woman he studied said, she accepted her diagnosis, but not her prognosis.

    During the pandemic, Lissa played a public role in debunking “Conspirituality,” the Covid denialism, anti-vaccination propaganda, and conspiracy theories promoted by many wellness, yoga, mind-body medicine, alternative medicine, and spirituality influencers who got “red-pilled” during 2020. This shakeout anchored her platform as a physician influencer to trust who is grounded in science, open to the mystical, spiritually aware, and trauma-informed.

    Lissa lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her daughter Mira, who is also a writer, and her puppy Gaia, who would tell great stories if only she knew how.

    Dr. JeffREY Rediger

    Jeffrey D. Rediger M.D., M.Div. is a distinguished academic physician with many years of experience in medicine, psychiatry, and spirituality. He serves as a member of the faculty at Harvard Medical School in Boston, and is also the Medical Director of the McLean Southeast Adult Psychiatric Program and Community Affairs at McLean Hospital and the Chief of Behavioral Medicine at Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center. His work has been featured on the Oprah Winfrey, Anderson Cooper 360, and Dr. Oz shows, as well as on TEDx.

    Prior to med school, Dr. Rediger obtained a Masters of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary. While there, and under the tutelage and mentorship of Dr. James Loder, Dr. Rediger worked hard to understand the interdisciplinary structure that undergirds inquiry in theology, science, and psychology. Dr. Loder, who was conducting research and writing with physicist James Neidhardt at the time, helped Dr. Rediger understand how deeply the conversation between theology and science is informed by the discoveries of modern physics.

    Armed with this new perspective, Dr. Rediger entered med school, confident that the day would come when modern physics would come to medicine. That day is now arriving, and an exciting day it is.

    Since 2003, he has been collecting medical evidence for recovery from illnesses that have been traditionally considered incurable.
     If you are on the science side, these are considered “spontaneous remissions” or “placebos.” If you are on the religious or spiritual side, they are considered “miracles” or “spiritual healing.” In any case, these terms are all black boxes that have not been unpacked by the tools of modern science.

    ABOUT Jill Bolte Taylor, Ph.D

    Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor is a Harvard-trained and published neuroanatomist whose research specialized in understanding how our brain creates our perception of reality. She was interested in this subject because she has a brother who is diagnosed with the brain disorder schizophrenia.

    As irony would have it, in 1996 at the age of 37, Dr. Jill experienced a severe hemorrhage in the left hemisphere of her brain. On the afternoon of this rare form of stroke (AVM), she could not walk, talk, read, write, or recall any of her life. It took eight years for Dr. Jill to completely rebuild her brain to recover all physical, emotional, and thinking abilities.

    Dr. Jill is the author of the New York Times bestselling memoir My Stroke of Insight: A Brain Scientist’s Personal Journey (published in 2008 by Viking Penguin), which is still often the #1 book about STROKE sold in the Amazon marketplace. In addition, her second book WHOLE BRAIN LIVING: The Anatomy of Choice and the Four Characters That Drive Our Life was published in May of 2021 by Hay House and is now readily available.

    In 2008, Dr. Jill gave a presentation about her experience with stroke at the TED Conference in Monterey, CA, which was the first TED talk to ever go viral through the internet. TED and Dr. Jill became world-famous instantaneously and that TED talk has now been viewed well over 27.5 million times. This 18-minute presentation catapulted Dr. Jill into the public eye, and within six weeks of presenting that TED talk, she was chosen as one of TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World, she was the premiere guest on Oprah’s Soul Series webcast, and her book My Stroke of Insight became a New York Times bestseller and remained on the list for 63 weeks.

    Dr. Jill is passionate about educating the public about the beauty of our human brain, and she is committed to not only helping others find their way back from neurological trauma but is eager to help everyone better understand their brain so they can live their best life. Her Foundation Jill Bolte Taylor BRAINS is dedicated to providing educational services and promoting programs that are related to the advancement of brain awareness, appreciation, exploration, education, injury prevention, neurological recovery, and the value of movement on mental and physical health, as well as other activities that support this purpose.
